Embark on a full-day private trekking adventure in the Făgăraș Mountains, Romania’s most famous mountain range, starting and ending in Brașov. This immersive tour combines the thrill of hiking with the scenic drive along the legendary Transfăgărășan Highway, often called one of the most beautiful roads in the world.
The journey begins with a picturesque two-hour drive from Brașov to Bâlea Lake, following the winding curves of the Transfăgărășan. As we ascend, you’ll hear stories about the road’s fascinating history and strategic significance, while taking in breathtaking views of the Carpathians. Note that the Transfăgărășan is open seasonally from July 1 to October 31, ensuring optimal conditions for the drive.
Upon reaching Bâlea Lake, nestled in a glacial valley, the trekking adventure begins. Hike to the serene Capra Lake, surrounded by rugged peaks and alpine landscapes. For the more adventurous, there’s an optional ascent to Vânătoarea lui Buteanu, one of Romania's highest peaks, standing at an impressive 2,507 meters. Alternatively, enjoy a more relaxed exploration of the area with a leisurely walk around Bâlea Lake, depending on the weather and your preference.
After completing the trek, you can choose to unwind with a hearty lunch at the Bâlea Lake Hotel, savoring local flavors while soaking in the views.
