The Journey
Day 1 — The Road to the Mountains
The journey begins with a drive along the iconic Transfăgărășan Highway, a winding route that crosses the Carpathians through dramatic landscapes of forests, waterfalls, and high-altitude terrain.
As the road climbs, the scenery gradually opens toward the alpine zone, reaching the glacial area around Bâlea.
Depending on conditions and timing, the day may include:
- short walks near alpine lakes and viewpoints
- exploration of the surrounding landscape
- time to adjust to altitude and environment
Overnight accommodation is arranged in the mountain area, offering a quiet setting close to nature.
Day 2 — The Mountain Experience
The second day is dedicated to hiking in the Făgăraș Mountains.
The route is selected based on weather, conditions, and your level of experience, and may include:
- glacial valleys and alpine trails
- ridgeline viewpoints and open landscapes
- sections leading toward peaks or high-altitude areas
The emphasis is on creating a balanced and rewarding mountain experience, rather than following a fixed itinerary.

Seasonal & Access Information
Access to certain areas along the Transfăgărășan Highway is subject to seasonal conditions and local regulations.
Transfăgărășan Road Access
- The road is typically open between July 1 and October 31
- Outside this period, access to high-altitude sections may be restricted due to weather conditions
Poienari Fortress Visits
Access to Poienari Fortress is currently regulated and available only at fixed entry times:
- 09:00
- 11:00
- 13:00
- Last ascent at 15:00
Departure Schedule
- Tours operate Sunday to Thursday
- Valid for the period: July – October
- Weekends are avoided due to increased traffic and congestion in the mountain area
