Discover a Transylvanian village at a relaxed pace, through a walking experience that reveals its landscapes, traditions, and everyday life.

A Walk Between an Empire and a Kingdom

Discover Transylvania at a slower pace, through a walking experience that reveals the character of its mountain villages, landscapes, and history.

Located just one hour from Brașov, this journey unfolds in a region where rolling hills, quiet paths, and open views create a natural setting for exploration on foot.

Landscapes and Perspective

Walking through this area offers expansive views across some of the most striking mountain ranges in Romania:

  • Bucegi Natural Park
  • Piatra Craiului National Park
  • Postăvaru Massif

The varied terrain and open scenery provide a constant sense of space and perspective throughout the day.

Beyond the Main Routes

While parts of Transylvania attract increasing attention, this experience focuses on areas where the rhythm of village life remains largely unchanged.

Walking here offers an authentic glimpse into the region, shaped by its landscape, agriculture, and traditions, helping travelers feel connected to and appreciative of local culture.

Ciocanu – At the Edge of History

At the foothills of the Piatra Craiului Mountains lies the village of Ciocanu, once positioned along the historic border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Romanian Kingdom, offering a meaningful glimpse into Transylvania's layered history and cultural heritage.

Its origins trace back to a small group of settlers, and its development was closely linked to its role as a frontier community.

Today, Ciocanu remains a quiet and remote settlement, where daily life continues to revolve around pastoral traditions and small-scale farming.

The Experience

The day follows a network of rural paths and trails, combining:

  • easy to moderate walking (approx. 10–12 km)
  • uphill / downhill: 300 m
  • time spent in the landscape
  • insight into local life and traditions

The relaxed pace provides space to observe, pause, and engage with the surroundings, fostering a sense of calm and ease for the audience.

A Taste of Local Life

At the end of the walk, a traditional meal is served at a local guesthouse.

The experience includes a selection of regional products such as:

  • locally produced cheeses
  • cured meats and traditional dishes
  • seasonal vegetables and homemade preserves

This experience is best suited for travelers who:

  • prefer a slower pace and a more relaxed way of exploring
  • enjoy walking through landscapes rather than visiting multiple landmarks
  • are interested in local life, traditions, and rural environments
  • appreciate time in nature without demanding physical effort
  • value small-group or private experiences with a personal approach
