A seven-day self-guided experience combining hiking across multiple mountain regions with cultural discovery in traditional villages and historic landmarks near Brașov.

A Complete Journey through the Carpathians

This experience is designed as a smooth journey through the Carpathians, encouraging exploration beyond isolated hikes and enhancing engagement.

Over seven days, you move through different landscapes and regions, gradually discovering the diversity of the Carpathian Mountains — from forest trails and limestone ridges to alpine plateaus and rural villages.

All logistics are arranged in advance, allowing you to explore independently while benefiting from structured support.

The Journey

The route connects four distinct mountain areas:

  • Piatra Mare Mountains
  • Piatra Craiului National Park
  • Bucegi Natural Park
  • Postăvaru Massif

Along the way, the experience also includes:

  • traditional Transylvanian villages
  • scenic countryside routes
  • optional visits to landmarks such as Bran Castle

🗺️ Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Brașov

Private transfer from Bucharest Airport to Brașov (approx. 2.5–3 hours).
Arrival and accommodation in a local guesthouse.

Depending on arrival time, you may explore the historic center at your own pace.

Day 2 — Piatra Mare & Seven Ladders Canyon

Transfer to the starting point in the Piatra Mare Mountains.

The hike follows forest trails and includes crossing the Seven Ladders Canyon, a narrow gorge equipped with metal ladders.

Optional extension to the summit of Piatra Mare.

  • Hiking time: approx. 4–8 hours
  • Distance: up to 16 km
  • Elevation: +800 m / -800 m
  • Difficulty: moderate to challenging

Return and overnight in Brașov.

Day 3 — Toward Piatra Craiului & Măgura Village

Transfer to Bran (approx. 30 km).

Today’s hike enters Piatra Craiului National Park, following a scenic route through forests and meadows, with views over the Bran region.

Arrival in the traditional village of Măgura.

  • Hiking time: approx. 4–5 hours
  • Distance: approx. 8 km
  • Elevation: +400 m / -400 m
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate

Accommodation in a village guesthouse.

Optional: visit Bran Castle before the hike.

Day 4 — Heart of Piatra Craiului

Full-day hiking in Piatra Craiului National Park.

The route combines forest trails, open meadows, and mountain paths, with an optional stop at Curmătura Chalet.

  • Hiking time: approx. 6–7 hours
  • Distance: approx. 16 km
  • Elevation: +500 m / -700 m
  • Difficulty: moderate

Return and overnight in Măgura village.

Day 5 — Bucegi Natural Park

Transfer to Bucegi Natural Park (approx. 45 minutes).

The hike follows forest roads and alpine meadows, with optional detours to a waterfall and to traditional sheep farms.

  • Hiking time: approx. 5–7 hours
  • Distance: approx. 14 km
  • Elevation: +800 m / -800 m
  • Difficulty: moderate

Return to Brașov for accommodation.

Day 6 — Brașov & Tampa Mountain

A lighter day for rest and exploration.

Optional hike on Tampa Mountain, offering panoramic views over Brașov. Cable car available.

  • Hiking time: approx. 2–3 hours
  • Difficulty: easy

Optional guided evening walking tour in Brașov.

Day 7 — Postăvaru Mountain

Transfer to Poiana Brașov.

Hike in the Postăvaru Massif, with a gradual ascent to the summit and wide views over the surrounding mountains.

Optional cable car access available.

  • Hiking time: approx. 4–5 hours
  • Distance: approx. 10 km
  • Elevation: +700 m / -700 m
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate

Return and overnight in Brașov.

Day 8 — Departure

Transfer to Bucharest Airport (approx. 2.5–3 hours).

  • Exploring Bucegi Natural Park, with its varied landscapes of forests, meadows, and high-altitude plateaus

Seasonal Notes

  • Access to the Seven Ladders Canyon is closed on Mondays
  • It may also be temporarily closed in case of adverse weather conditions (e.g., heavy rain or storms)

  • Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly — appropriate waterproof and warm clothing is recommended
  • Hiking in national parks may involve encounters with wildlife, including brown bears; basic awareness and following local guidance are advised
