Description Small-Group day trip Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress Tour from Brasov

Guaranteed departure day tour: Brasov - Bran Castle (a.k.a. Dracula's Castle) - Rasnov Fortress - Brasov

RASNOV FORTRESS IS CLOSED, for the moment! Anyhow, we could visit the outside walls and exterior court.

Discover Bran Castle, known as ‘Dracula’s Castle,’ and Râșnov Fortress on this approx. 5-hour small group tour from Braşov. Departing from Brasov, the half-day hour tour begins with a stop at Rasnov to explore its imposing 13th-century fortress. Known also as a peasant castle it was used by the inhabitants of Rasnov (Rosenau) as shelter during the numerous invasions marching through. The fortress included dwellings where the villagers could accommodate themselves and be protected by thick walls equiped with shooting and pouring holes. Not only that the community thought of their food resources, but they where ambitious enough to dig a very deep well to ensure they had water inside the fortress. Our guide will happilly tell you the tales and legends while taking in the beautiful views which surround the fortress. Next up is Bran Castle, also known as ‘Dracula’s Castle’ — a hilltop estate that conjures up visions of howling wolves and bats fluttering in the moonlight. Wander the castle’s Gothic chambers and learn about its ties to Bram Stoker’s undead antihero, inspired by Vlad the Impaler a harsh, but rightful ruler. Initially built by teutonic knights and reconstructed as a stone building by the orders of Ludvig de Anjou it protected the south-eastern border of Transylvania with Wallachia. Not only used as a military fort but also as customs building where merchants paied their taxes before entering to Transylvania. Strategically built on a rock, called Dietrich rock offered a great outlook on the trade rout passing through. After the Great Unification of Transylvania with the rest of Romania the castle's tale took a turn and became the favorite summer residence of Queen Maria, the Queen of all Romanians and one of the keymaker of the Greater Romania. Accompanied by our guide you'll not only learn about the castle's history but also get introduction in the numerous tales and legends which inspired Bram Stoker in creating its successful novel Dracula.

Great tour

We had a great time. Charlie was an amazing guide, fun to talk to, we laughed a lot, and he had an endless stream of information about everything Romania, from the latest bear related news to cheese advice.

We were with a group of 4 and there was a lot of flexibility in the program, depending on what we wanted to do. We are very happy with our choice.

Wonderful trip through the Carpathians

A wonderful trip with a great guide. I had Dan. He was well informed and interesting - a pleasure to spend the day with. He was very helpful and one of the best guides I’ve had. I’ll definitely be recommending him and your company to others in the future.

Excellent trip

I had a wonderful experience visiting Bran Castle, Rasnov Fortress, and then a fortified church on the way back to Braşov. Our guide, Charlie, was thoughtful and funny. I enjoyed hearing about the folklore he learned from his grandmother as a child; it helped you see how much these stories are still part of the local culture. Easy pickup, comfortable car, and lots of good conversation. I don’t usually take tours but I’m glad I did this one, since I met some really nice people and saved myself the stress of multiple public bus transfers. I felt very comfortable as a solo woman traveler, too.
