Discover Bran Castle, known as 'Dracula's Castle,' and Râșnov Fortress on this approximately 5-hour small group tour from Braşov. Departing from Brașov, this half-day tour begins with a visit to Bran Castle, also known as 'Dracula's Castle'. Next, we visit Râșnov Fortress to explore its imposing 13th-century fortification. Known also as a peasant castle, it was used by the inhabitants of Rasnov (Rosenau) as shelter during the numerous invasions marching through. The fortress included dwellings where the villagers could accommodate themselves and be protected by thick walls equipped with shooting and pouring holes. Not only did the community consider their food resources, but they were also ambitious enough to dig a very deep well to ensure they had water inside the fortress. Our guide will happily tell you the tales and legends while taking in the beautiful views that surround the fortress. Next up is Bran Castle, also known as 'Dracula's Castle' — a hilltop estate that conjures up visions of howling wolves and bats fluttering in the moonlight. Wander the castle's Gothic chambers and learn about its ties to Bram Stoker's undead antihero, inspired by Vlad the Impaler, a harsh but rightful ruler. Initially built by the Teutonic Knights and reconstructed as a stone building by the orders of Ludvig de Anjou, it protected the south-eastern border of Transylvania with Wallachia. Not only was it used as a military fort, but it also served as a customs building where merchants paid their taxes before entering Transylvania. Strategically situated on a rock called Dietrich Rock, it offered a great vantage point for the trade route passing through. After the Great Unification of Transylvania with the rest of Romania, the castle's tale took a turn. It became the favorite summer residence of Queen Maria, the Queen of all Romanians and one of the key figures in the creation of Greater Romania. Accompanied by our guide, you'll not only learn about the castle's history but also get an introduction to the numerous tales and legends that inspired Bram Stoker in creating his successful novel Dracula.

MONDAY BRAN CASTLE IS OPENED AT NOON.
Crowded in high season (July - August).
Will I still get value from the tour if Rasnov Fortress is closed and I can only see the exterior?
Absolutely! We understand that visiting a historical site is essential, and even if Rasnov Fortress is closed for interior visits, its exterior offers breathtaking views and a wealth of fascinating history. Our guide will share compelling stories about the fortress's strategic importance, its role in local defense, and the legends surrounding it. The beautiful scenery and the chance for memorable photos make this stop truly worthwhile.
Why are entrance fees not included in the tour price? Are there any other hidden costs?
We recognize that flexibility is essential for our guests. That is why we separate entrance fees from the tour price. Some may have their own discounted tickets or prefer to skip certain attractions. This approach allows you to pay only for what you genuinely wish to experience. We assure you there are no hidden costs; we clearly outline all additional expenses, such as entrance fees and optional drop-offs, so you know exactly what to expect.
How crowded does Bran Castle get, especially in high season? Will it ruin my experience?
We understand that a crowded space can sometimes detract from your enjoyment. Bran Castle is a popular destination, especially in July and August, which can make it busy. However, as part of a smaller group tour, our guides are skilled at planning visits to minimize time spent in crowded areas while focusing on the highlights that matter most. If you are looking for a quieter experience, we gently recommend visiting during the off-peak seasons.
Is five hours enough time to truly enjoy and explore both Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress?
Yes, it certainly is! We have thoughtfully designed the tour to provide a fulfilling experience within a half-day. Our guides are dedicated to maximizing your time, focusing on the most interesting facts and stories, ensuring you walk away with a deep appreciation for both sites. You can expect to absorb the rich history without feeling rushed.
Is this tour suitable for seniors or families with young children?
Yes, definitely! We recognize that comfort is key, which is why this is a low-difficulty tour. While walking and stairs are involved at the various sites, we ensure the pace is manageable for all guests. If you have specific mobility concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us—we're here to help. We can provide additional support or guidance to enhance your experience and make it more enjoyable.
What is the group size, and can I book a private tour?
We are committed to providing a personal and relaxed experience, which is why we specialize in small-group tours (with a maximum of 8 participants). If you're looking for a more intimate experience, we also offer private tours tailored to your group's needs. Just let us know what you're looking for, and we'll do our best to accommodate you!
Where exactly is the meeting point? Can I be picked up from my hotel or dropped off at a different location?
The main meeting point is in front of Biblioteca Județeană "George Barițiu" at Bulevardul Eroilor 33-35. We completely understand that convenience matters; therefore, we offer complimentary pick-up from various locations within Brașov, including areas outside the old town. If you have a specific drop-off location in mind, we are happy to assist with that for a small additional fee. Just let us know 24 hours in advance, and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Will Bran Castle meet my expectations as Dracula's Castle? Will there be any Dracula-related artifacts or stories?
Bran Castle is indeed a place rich in history and legend, and we believe it will meet your expectations quite well. While there may not be explicit Dracula-related artifacts, our guide will share the fascinating connections between the castle, Bram Stoker's iconic novel, and Vlad the Impaler, the historical figure who inspired the legend. The castle's Gothic architecture and mysterious ambiance are sure to spark your imagination.
Why does the tour on Monday start later? Will it affect my experience or limit my time at the attractions?
We appreciate your understanding regarding schedule adjustments. On Mondays, Bran Castle opens at noon, prompting us to modify the start time accordingly. This ensures that you have ample time to explore both sites without feeling rushed. Please rest assured that your experience will be equally enjoyable and informative, regardless of the adjusted timing.
What happens if the weather is bad? Is this tour still worth doing in winter or during cold months?
We understand that weather conditions can be a concern. However, we firmly believe that this tour is worthwhile in any season. Winter adds a unique charm to the scenery, with snow-covered landscapes enhancing the beauty of the castles. Our transportation is climate-controlled for your comfort, and our guides are experienced in adapting the itinerary to ensure your experience is enjoyable, regardless of the weather.
Is this tour only available in English? Are there guides who speak other languages?
Currently, we offer the tour in English year-round. However, we fully understand that language preferences vary. If you require a guide who speaks a different language, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will do our best to accommodate your request, subject to the availability of our guides.
Is €46 per person a good value for this tour? What makes it worth the price compared to other options?
We genuinely believe that this tour offers excellent value for the experience it provides. You will enjoy transportation in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, the expertise of a licensed guide who brings history to life, and the benefits of a small group setting that ensures a personalized experience. This tour provides a stress-free way to explore two iconic attractions, creating wonderful memories while saving time and effort compared to planning the trip independently.

Excellent trip
I had a wonderful experience visiting Bran Castle, Rasnov Fortress, and then a fortified church on the way back to Braşov. Our guide, Charlie, was thoughtful and funny. I enjoyed hearing about the folklore he learned from his grandmother as a child; it helped you see how much these stories are still part of the local culture. Easy pickup, comfortable car, and lots of good conversation. I don’t usually take tours but I’m glad I did this one, since I met some really nice people and saved myself the stress of multiple public bus transfers. I felt very comfortable as a solo woman traveler, too.
