Day 1 — Into the Carpathians

Bucharest – Bâlea Lake / Sibiu (seasonal)

Your journey begins with a transfer into the Carpathian Mountains.

During the summer months, the route follows the scenic Transfăgărășan Road, reaching Bâlea Lake, set at over 2,000 meters altitude.

In the colder season, the journey continues directly to Sibiu.

Overnight in Bâlea Lake or Sibiu.

Day 2 — Alpine Landscapes and Cultural Introduction

Bâlea Lake – Sibiu

A relaxed morning allows time to experience the alpine surroundings.

The journey continues to Sibiu, where a guided walk introduces one of Transylvania’s most important cultural centers.

The day also includes a visit to the ASTRA National Museum Complex, an extensive open-air museum reflecting traditional Romanian life.

Day 3 — Castles and Underground Worlds

Sibiu – Hunedoara – Turda – Cluj-Napoca

Visit Corvin Castle, one of Europe’s most impressive Gothic-Renaissance castles.

Continue to Turda Salt Mine, a vast underground space shaped by centuries of salt extraction.

Overnight in Cluj-Napoca.

Day 4 — Transition to Maramureș

Cluj-Napoca – Breb

The route continues north into Maramureș, a region known for its preserved rural traditions.

A visit to the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța offers a unique perspective on local culture and expression.

Overnight in the village of Breb.

Day 5 — Rural Maramureș

Optional: a narrow-gauge steam train journey through the Vaser Valley.

Day 6 — Crossing into Bucovina

Maramureș – Bucovina

The journey continues across mountain passes into Bucovina.

Day 7 — Painted Monasteries

Day 9 — Return to Transylvania

Bucovina – Sighișoara

The journey returns to Transylvania, arriving in Sighișoara Citadel.

Day 10 — Saxon Villages and Fortifications

Sighișoara – Biertan – Viscri – Brașov

Visit Biertan Fortified Church and the village of Viscri.

Continue to Rupea Fortress before arriving in Brașov.

Day 11 — Castles and Mountain Villages

Brașov – Bran – Piatra Craiului Region

Visit Bran Castle, followed by a walk through traditional villages in Piatra Craiului National Park.

Farewell dinner in Brașov.

Day 12 — Departure

Brașov – Bucharest

Transfer to Bucharest Airport.
