The Active Travel Agency, Mr Marian's tourist office in Brasov, is a very serious and pleasent way of travelling in the Transilvania region in Rumenia. We were fortunate to have T.B. as our driver and tour guide for the day, and the experience exceeded our expectations. T.B. was not only extremely knowledgeable about the local history but also highly professional in every aspect of the tour.

The tour was amazing, and so was our guide Charlie. We got to Pelés castle nice and early so we beat all the crowds. Charlie even waited in line for us while we enjoyed a coffee and pastry at the cafe so we could be first in line. We stopped at a Romanian restaurant for lunch, food was great and inexpensive. Bran castle was also very cool and Charlie gave us information in every room. The fortress was closed but we were able to walk around to get a nice view point over the city. On the way back to Brasov we also stopped at another view point over Brasov to take some photos. Overall the day was great, perfect itinerary, great timing at each place (we didn’t feel rushed at all), and the small group size was a plus. And most importantly the guide was great! He was very knowledgeable about each location and all the places we drove through and gave us lots of recommendations and answered any questions we had. 10/10 would recommend! A highlight of my trip!

Fantastic Tour of Bran Castle, Râșnov Fortress & Peleș Castle – Highly Recommended!
Our tour to Bran Castle, Râșnov Fortress, and Peleș Castle was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by our incredible guide, Charlie. From start to finish, the day was perfectly organized, allowing us to take in the breathtaking history and stunning architecture of these iconic landmarks.
Charlie was absolutely superb—his deep knowledge, engaging storytelling, and passion for the history of Romania truly brought each site to life. He made the entire experience not only informative but also highly enjoyable. His friendly nature and enthusiasm ensured that we were captivated throughout the journey.
Each stop on the tour was unique in its own right. Bran Castle, with its legendary ties to Dracula, had a fascinating atmosphere, while Râșnov Fortress offered spectacular views and although not currently open, it gave us a glimpse into medieval defense structures. Thoroughly impressed, highly recommend
I usually don’t like tours but decided to book one owing to time limitations. I don’t regret it. Excellent tour and very knowledgeable and personable guide. Charlie made sure I got my Castle tickets online, avoiding ticket lines. He guided me through the process. Promptly picked up on schedule and was very professional. He had a good sense of humor. I was thoroughly impressed by all the arrangements. Since I was the only person, he also took me to a Saxon fortified Church. I highly recommend this tour operator, don’t book anywhere else. Cheers

I was alone on the tour. It was interesting and the guide Tiberiu was very knowledgeable. Bran castle was interesting to see even though the weather wasn’t too good. Rasnov Fortress offers a nice view of the town.

This was a last minute booking. And so pleased with the choice. Marian was super helpful and efficient in arranging everything. And Alex our guide was exceptional: knowledgeable, friendly and a great communicator. I was impressed with how responsible they are not to interfere with the bears and to avoid any human human interaction that would disturb their natural way of life. Excellent eco tourism.
We saw four bears, from a very comfortable hide. A wonderful experience that I won’t forget. Highly recommended.

The trip was amazing. Tiberiu, tour guide, was knowledgeable. We talked about everything of Romania and different cultures of the world. He recommended very good restaurant and other travelling tips in Romania. Last and important was he put safety driving as priority. :) the trip was highly recommended anyway, you can see beautiful countrysides andhistorical buildings.

It was amazing! I was actually feeling a bit sick that day, but Dan was very patient and he drove very slowly around the winding roads, and stopped for many breaks. And we still got to see lots of very beautiful buildings (Peles Castle is *chefs kiss) and views, and he had lots of good stories and pictures.
The maps and the figurines was also helpful to understand the history of Romania. I learnt so much!

Knowledgeable and friendly guide
Charlie was a great guide. I really enjoyed the trip with him, learning about the culture and history of the castles and the area. He let us take the pace and fully enjoy the sites without hurry. Per our request, he also took us to a restaurant that served the traditional Romanian food. The food was great with reasonable price .

Private Day Tour to Mountain Villages
We are a couple in our seventies and took a private day tour with Activetravel in Romanian mountain villages. Our guide was Marian. We must admit this was an exceptionally successful tour. We enjoyed every moment of it. The route was beautiful, everything around looked just like a postcard green hills ,meadows and fields, full of wild flowers. Marian appeared to be not only a highly experienced professional but also a very kind and pleasant person. In addition, we were served a tasty Romanian lunch.

Unbelievably close to wild bears AMAZING

This was run very well. Arranged pick up. Comfortable van. Toilet stop on way to hide. Spent 90ish minutes in the hide where could sit comfortably. 8 in our group and the guide.
Most important bit - the bears were amazing I couldn’t have imagined coming so close to them in the wild. They were going about their normal business and did not seem affected by our presence which made it even better.
The guide Luchien was fun but very responsible keeping us safe. Highly recommended tour.

I signed up for this with Active Travel and Bogdan was my guide. Bogdan is part mountain goat and part life philosopher. He tested me out a bit before deciding I was up for the steeper part involving cables or more hands on climbing. It was beyond what I normally do but it was very rewarding. Out of the comfort zone but in the best way possible. Bogdan was excellent. Tips, encouragement the whole lot. I was busted at the end of the day but it was a super experience.

If you’re staying in Brasov make sure you take the time to visit sighisoara! What an absolute gem of Transylvania, we also visit Viscri for lunch and a visit to the fortress church which was wonderful and shows you the traditional Romania you imagine. The whole day was something from a fairytale and our guide was wonderful! Thank you Charlie for a lovely day exploring your country.

Great service and a great tour. Marian was not only an excellent guide but clearly adjusted the tour slightly to suit us (Father and teenage son)
His obvious deep knowledge and love of the forests mean I would not hesitate to also recommend hiking with this company and regret we did not have time to do one ourselves.

I personally enjoy going to quaint small cities, towns and villages (provided there is good transport). With that in mind; Viscri, Sighisoara, Rupea did not disappoint. Probably the warm sunny weather also contributed to there beauty. Lunch in Viscri, as per recommendation of Timi, was great. Succulent meal. I enjoyed exploring the church and fortness.

Wonderful walk in the Carpathian Mountains
We ( 7 friends ) had a fantastic walk with Itsi our guide. We had opted for the more challenging ridge route when booking but after discussions with Itsi we switched to the easier mountain village walk . It was an 18k hike stopping at a fantastic village restaurant where we sat on the terrace enjoying wonderful views of the mountains. This ended up being the highlight of our walk , enjoying wonderful food and soaking up the views. Itsi was friendly and informative and the booking was easy also picking us from our apartment. Would really recommend this walk and it’s not too challenging all for those with reasonable fitness.

We completed the tour today. Alina was our guide. The tour was very well organized by Marian from Active Travel and the hike through the mountains was absolutely AMAZING, at an easy pace, accompanied by a lot of detailed explanations by Alina. The nature that we hiked through was varied and having a beautiful day made it even more breathtaking!!!
The 3 course lunch that was offered at the end of the hike was at an extremely beautiful guest house. It was beyond exceptional-tasty, varied, plentiful and served in a very Romanian authentic atmosphere!!!!

Lovely short hike, friendly guides

I had a great morning with Alex and Dan on this short hike along the seven ladders canyon. We had a small group of 4 and could take breaks as necessary. Remember to bring cash for the admission to the actual canyon itself (25 RON at the time of writing). Pickup from the hotel was prompt and communication was good via WhatsApp! Would absolutely do another hike with them in future when I visit Transylvania again.
