Signature Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Brașov to Bucegi: A Scenic Opening to the Carpathians
Your journey begins in Brașov, where you meet your guide and travel toward the Bucegi Mountains. Known for their impressive scale and wide-open views, the Bucegi Mountains offer an ideal introduction to the Southern Carpathians.
This adaptable route, based on weather and trail conditions, encourages a sense of adventure, empowering travelers and making them excited to discover the mountains at their own pace.
The first day is designed to ease you into the mountain environment while offering a rewarding sense of arrival. Your guide will set a comfortable pace, share local insights, and introduce the region's natural and cultural context.
After the hike, continue to the Bran village area, where your guesthouse welcomes you with a homemade dinner and the calm atmosphere of rural Transylvania.
Accommodation: local guesthouse in the Bran area
Meals: dinner
Day 2 — Măgura & Peștera: Villages, Meadows and Mountain Traditions
Today, the journey moves into one of the most picturesque rural landscapes in the Romanian Carpathians. The route links the mountain villages of Măgura and Peștera, beautifully positioned between Bucegi and Piatra Craiului.
This is a day of open meadows, wooden fences, hayfields, scattered farms, grazing animals, and long views toward the surrounding mountains. The scenery is peaceful and deeply atmospheric, offering a rare glimpse into a mountain way of life that remains closely connected to the land.
From June to September, depending on local activity and route conditions, the day may include a visit to a traditional sheep farm. This adds a memorable cultural layer to the hike, offering insight into pastoral traditions that have shaped the Carpathians for generations.
The day closes with dinner at the guesthouse, where local hospitality brings warmth and comfort after time on the trail.
Accommodation: local guesthouse in the Bran area
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner
Day 3 — Piatra Craiului: The High-Mountain Day
The third day is the most ambitious stage of the journey and the moment when Piatra Craiului reveals its full character.
If weather and group conditions are favorable, the route aims for the national park's highest peak, which reaches 2,238 meters. The ascent requires good fitness and determination, but the reward is exceptional: limestone ridges, sweeping views, deep valleys, and the powerful feeling of standing in one of Romania’s most iconic mountain landscapes.
Piatra Craiului is known for its sharp profile and distinctive white limestone ridge, making it unlike any other mountain range in Romania. The terrain may be more demanding today, with sustained climbs, rocky paths, and a stronger alpine atmosphere.
Your guide will make all route decisions with safety in mind. If the summit route is not suitable, we will select an alternative trail within the national park to ensure a rich, beautiful mountain experience without compromising comfort or security.
Return to the guesthouse for a well-earned dinner and a restful evening.
Accommodation: local guesthouse in the Bran area
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner
Day 4 — Zărnești Gorges: A Dramatic Finale
Your final day brings a different kind of beauty: the vertical limestone walls and intimate atmosphere of the Zărnești Gorges.
This striking natural corridor is one of the most memorable places in Piatra Craiului National Park. The trail leads between high rock faces, through quiet sections of forest and stone, creating a powerful contrast with the open village landscapes and high mountain terrain of the previous days.
The walk offers a fitting finale to the journey: scenic, accessible, atmospheric, and deeply connected to the park's geological identity.
After the hike, transfer back to Brașov, where the tour ends with four days of mountain landscapes, rural hospitality, and guided discovery behind you.
Meals: breakfast, packed lunch
End point: Brașov

Outstanding trip in one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.
We were two couples on this trip. What a fantastic time we had! Our guide Mihai was so knowledgeable and patient. We got rained out one day but made up for it the following day with an epic day up to Shepherd’s Peak. Each day (3 hiking days) was different and equally interesting and exhilarating. I can’t recommend this trek more. Also- planning it with Marian at Active Travel was so great. We did it all over Whatsapp which made it easy to get questions answered etc. She worked with us to make the perfect trip. Have to give a plug to the guesthouse where we stayed in Magura (will do a separate review). This place was organized by the tour and it was also a highlight. The village of Magura is unlike anything I’ve seen- such gorgeous mountains and small farms- forests and fields. We hope to come back one day.Marina
