Description & Features
Day 1 – Brașov, Bâlea Lake & Podragu Chalet
Your adventure begins with a morning transfer from Brașov to Bâlea Lake, spectacularly situated at approximately 2,034 meters in the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains.
Driving time: approximately 2.5–3 hours from Brașov to Bâlea Lake.
From Bâlea Lake, we set out on foot along the high mountain terrain, following sections of the main Făgăraș ridge towards Podragu Chalet.
The trail is physically demanding, with repeated ascents and descents and sections of rugged alpine terrain. As we gain and lose altitude throughout the day, the landscape opens into sweeping views of the surrounding peaks, ridges and glacial valleys.
After approximately 5–6 hours of hiking, we reach Podragu Chalet (2,136 m), where we spend the night.
Built in 1948–1949, Podragu is one of the historic mountain chalets of the Făgăraș Mountains. Accommodation here is basic, but the remote location and genuine mountain atmosphere create an immersive experience that connects you deeply with the wilderness.
Day 2 – Moldoveanu Peak & Descent through the Viștea Valley
We start early, leaving Podragu Chalet behind as we begin the ascent towards Moldoveanu Peak.
The trail climbs steadily through spectacular high-altitude terrain towards Viștea Mare Peak (2,527 m) before continuing along the famous ridge to Moldoveanu, at 2,544 meters — the highest summit in Romania.
Reaching the summit is the defining moment of the journey. From the top, the panorama extends across the vast Făgăraș range, revealing the scale and remoteness of Romania’s highest mountains.
After enjoying the summit, we begin a long descent through the Viștea glacial valley, gradually leaving the alpine environment behind as we make our way towards the main road.
The descent takes approximately 5–6 hours and provides a contrasting perspective of the mountain landscape, from exposed high-altitude terrain to the deep glacial valley below.
At the end of the trek, our private transfer will be waiting to take us back to Brașov.
Driving time: approximately 2- 2.5 hours.
Rate: from €599 per person
